We went to family story time at the Smoky Hill Library. I have so much to say about this amazing library! First, the parking lot...
was almost totally full. This place is hopping! I love to see an active and successful library serving the community 😇
Second, the library is enormous. It has a cafe, where the kids bought and shared a packet of M&M's, but they also have coffee and pastries. The Friends of the Library store surrounds the cafe, and they have tons of CD's 💿 and DVD's 📀 in addition to used books. It has a second story, which we didn't even get to!
The children's area is BIG and has the story time room inside it. They checked to make sure we registered for story time before they would let us in, which makes sense since it was packed. Make sure you register if you go to one of their events! They even checked our names on the list. But the kids did get to wear fun name tags 🏷️
The children's area is blocked off from the rest of the library with a door that closes, so I felt good my kids wouldn't escape without me 😂 They have a whole separate little room for graphic novels, which is very important to my kids.
They have kids on different topics with books and toys and learning aides. I need to find out more about this, which sounds amazing for homeschool.
You can borrow Nintendo Switch and PS4/5 and Xbox games from the library!!!! But you have to put them on hold first.
The Arapahoe system takes books back to the Aurora and Denver systems. In fact, I can use my Aurora card at the Arapahoe libraries (they just had to set up my account).
They have a color copier, fax machine, 3D printer, and laminator. I paid $.19 for 18 color copies. I laminated 22 pages FOR FREE, and the laminator is super easy to use. The librarian says that sometimes they run out of the laminator plastic sheets, but today there was no shortage. I'm going to find out more about this 3D printer (it was in constant use while we were there).
I definitely recommend the Smoky Hill Library. Honestly, it's probably the nicest library I've ever been to. We're definitely going to more events there!
